Meeting the Challenge of Autism

Autism is challenging to manage on its own, but this condition often exists along with other behavioral and psychiatric problems. At Tufts Medical Center, we understand that your child’s physician may need assistance in managing behavioral and emotional challenges in autism, Asperger’s syndrome and other autism spectrum disorders.

That’s why the clinicians in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry provide our colleagues in developmental pediatrics with expert consultations for their patients who may have autism in addition to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral challenges and other concerns. Together, we help ensure that your child receives the highest quality care.

A Unique Clinic with a Team Approach

Some kids with autism spectrum disorders need special attention. The Tufts Medical Center’s Autism Behavior Consultation Clinic is a unique weekly clinic for children and teens with difficult-to-treat autism and other behavioral disorders. This partially grant-funded multidisciplinary program provides therapy, medications and resources for up to 15 sessions.

For cases that cannot be adequately managed with such a short, intensive intervention, we aim to establish or provide consultation to treatment of such children and families in the community. We work with children who have been referred to this unique clinic by neurologists, pediatricians, developmental pediatricians and other specialists to focus on the care that kids and their families need most.
