Does your child fall into a very deep sleep every night? So much so that having to pee doesn't wake him or her up? If you child wets the bed at night (enuresis) or during the daytime, they may often feel embarrassed about not being to control their body.
Day and night time wetting are common in childhood and can often become a source of distress for the entire family. When you bring your child to see a specialist in the Division of Nephrology at Tufts Medical Center, you can rest assured that we will take every step to help your child control his or her bladder.
Working together with the specialists in the Division of Pediatric Urology, our team diagnoses and manages children with bed and daytime wetting issues. We start by making sure there is no underlying medical condition that could be causing the wetting problem. Then, we determine what might be causing the bed wetting problem, whether it be sleep pattern or a stressful situation at school.
Our doctors use a range of techniques to help your child with his or her bladder control issue. Most commonly, we use behavioral modification techniques but may also recommend medications if needed.
The good news is that day and night time wetting are both likely to go away on their own.
