Below are some online resources that may be helpful as a “next step” when children or families are experiencing challenges. This list is not exhaustive, and we would also suggest developing a list of resources specific to your local setting.
Children + family

Hundreds of handouts on topics of all kinds, including physical and social-emotional health. Available in English and Spanish. Requires registration to access.

AACAP's Facts for Families provide concise and up-to-date information on issues that affect children and families. Available in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

American Psychological Association Psychology Help Center: www.apa.org/helpcenter/index.aspx
APA's Psychology Help Center is an online resource featuring articles and information related to psychological issues. Available in English and Spanish.

Bright Futures resources for families: https://brightfutures.aap.org/families/Pages/Resources-for-Families.aspx
Provides a snapshot of what milestones to expect at different ages, and anticipatory guidance for what skills parents should watch for their child to develop next. Available in English and Spanish.

Centers for Disease Control handouts: www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/childdevelopment/freematerials.htm
Handouts on many topics, including positive parenting and specific conditions . All handouts available in English, some materials also available in Spanish.

Child Health and Development Interactive System (CHADIS) Resource Database, created by The Center for Promotion of Child Development through Primary Care: http://resources.childhealthcare.org/index.do
Large, searchable database of online and printed materials about many subjects. Language availability varies by linked resource.

A parent-centered website created by the AAP, this website provides a huge number of resources on may topics, including motor skills, sleep issues, teething, and family dynamics. Available in English and Spanish.

Help Me Grow: https://helpmegrownational.org/
Provider-focused resources on a variety of topics, including information on becoming a Help Me Grow affiliate. Available in English.

Kids Mental Health Info
Created by the state of CT, but featuring both CT-specific and national resources. Includes searchable database of articles on many topics, including childhood trauma. Available in English and Spanish.

Text 4 Baby: https://text4baby.org 
A free service provided in partnership by the nonprofit organization Zero to Three and Voxiva, Inc. Parents can enroll to receive text messages about sleep, milestones, appointment reminders, and more. There is also a free smartphone app. Available in English and Spanish.

Domestic violence
  • National Domestic Abuse Hotline: http://www.thehotline.org/
    Confidential, one-on-one support available 24/7, offering crisis intervention, options for next steps and direct connection to sources for immediate safety. The Hotline’s database holds over 5,000 agencies and resources in communities all across the country. Bilingual advocates are on hand to speak with callers, and their Language Line offers translations in 170+ different languages. Web chat also available.

    Provides written resources, ability to search for help in your area, and free, live group phone sessions every week with licensed mental health professionals. Available in English and Spanish.
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSA) helpline: http://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline
    SAMHSA’s National Helpline (also known as the Treatment Referral Routing Service) is a confidential, free, 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year, information service, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. Available in English and Spanish.
     
Positive parenting
  • Centers for Disease Control parenting videos: http://www.cdc.gov/parents/essentials/videos/index.html
    Short videos demonstrating earn how to handle common parenting challenges with positive parenting skills. Available in English.
  • Healthy Children: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/Pages/default.aspx
    A parent-centered website created by the AAP, this website provides a huge number of resources on may topics, including motor skills, sleep issues, teething, and family dynamics. Available in English and Spanish.
  • Positive Parenting Programs (Triple P) website: www.triplep-parenting.com
    Parenting tips on hot topics like enforcing screen time limits and saying ‘no’ effectively, subscriptions to a free weekly parenting tips email, and search feature to find local parenting classes. Available in English.
     
Substance abuse

    Resources for parents trying to quit smoking, including information on creating a quit plan and the ability to sign up for text-message support to help stay on track. Available in English and Spanish.
