The Pediatric Dentistry service at Tufts Medical Center provides comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care services for infants, children and adolescents in our outpatient clinic at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Routine dental procedures are provided in our eighteen-chair clinic. For patients who have difficulty undergoing dental procedures in the usual manner, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation in our clinic, and dental treatment under general anesthesia in the operating room at Tufts Medical Center.
In addition to routine care, we specialize in the management of patients with complex dental, medical, developmental, and behavioral issues such as:
- Infants and young children with early childhood caries (i.e. bottle or nursing decay)
- Patients with dental disorders such as ectodermal dysplasia, enamel hypoplasia, amelogenesis imperfecta, and dentinogenesis imperfecta
- Patients with autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit disorder, Down syndrome, and other developmental and behavioral conditions
- Patients with advanced medical problems and intellectual disabilities with special needs
The members of our Division also offer special expertise in treating patients with special needs and those with birth defects, including cleft lip and palate.
