Patients receiving maintenence hemodialysis will be screened for underlying cognitive impairment using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) Tool, a cognitive screening tool. Routine dialysis data, including biochemical measures and attendance records, will then be subsequently examined. Depending on the MoCA results, patients may be invited to participate in an interview to explore their experience with the MoCA screening tool and other aspects of their dialysis care.

Study details
Inclusion Criteria
- Subject receives maintenance hemodialysis
- Subject is greater than or equal to 18 years of age
- Subject is English speaking
Exclusion Criteria
- Subjects with significant hearing- and/or visually-impairment (to the degree that which they cannot read or follow instructions)
- Subjects have been recently hospitalized within 1 month of enrolling in the study
- Subjects with severe dementia (to the degree of being unable to complete cognitive testing)
Study Requirements
Study requirements include: one-time participation in cogntive screening using the MoCA tool, attendance to outpatient dialysis appointments in line with typical dialysis care, blood collections in line with typical dialysis care, and possible participation in a patient interview. Total length of participation in the study is 3 months.
